New York Fashion Week is just around the corner and as always there is an overwhelming amount of information, events and parties. If you plan to attend New York Fashion Week you might be happy to hear that not all events are invite only; tickets are available to certain venues and shows. Zac Posen sold 100$ tickets to his show at Vanderbilt Hall and even includes a gift as part of the package. Details can be found on the siftedcity.com calendar (check our events calendar for updates and helpful links). If you do decide to go, New York Fashion Week can be a daunting experience for first-time attendees. One of the biggest challenges is the sheer volume of shows and events. Even if you’re lucky enough to be a NYFW attendee, it’s easy to miss great shows and parties. Events are frequently scheduled closely together time-wise but may be located at distant off-site locations (try getting anywhere in New York City during Fashion Week or rush hour and you’re almost guaranteed to be late). To further complicate matters, New York Fashion Week has undergone big changes over the years and is still looking for an official spot to call home. The main venue has moved several times, beginning in Bryant Park, then Lincoln Center, MILK Studios and now Moynihan Station plus numerous off-site shows and venues. Keeping track of overlapping events, show locations and schedule conflicts is a major hassle and detracts from the overall experience. So the obvious question is “why hasn’t someone created an app for that?” Well the answer is…they have! It’s called the Fashion Beauty Monitor and is available for free on iTunes. Faced with a busy and challenging week, I decided to give it a try and so far I like it. Below is a screenshot from their iTunes site (for more info on the Official FBM NYFW2015 App visit fashionmonitor.com)

The App downloaded easily to my iPhone and within minutes I was able to make a basic schedule for the week. One of the nice features of this App is the “set alerts” option that enables users to choose when they wish to receive event reminder alerts. Another great feature is the interactive Google maps available for every show. Not only does the App provide each show’s address but it also links directly to Google maps so that you don’t have to waste your time looking up venues one-by-one. Anyone who has ever attended a hectic conference will defintiely appreciate these functions. And of course, the App feeds the schedule directly to your phone– all you have to to is select the show & add it to your personalized schedule for the week. The fact that the App is so specifically designed for New York Fashion Week functions well in that regard. So far, however, I’ve been unable to add events outside of the ones provided by the FBM App list. Being able to add outside events that could potentially conflict with the Fashion Week schedule would be an added plus. Other than that, no problems so far. I’m looking forward to testing the App this week for myself and see how it compares with the old way of doing things (printed schedules and selected iPhone alerts). We’ll see…
